Warning to govt servants taking part in poll campaign

Mysore, Apr 21 (UNI) Mysore District Deputy Commissioner and Election Officer P Manivannan today ordered an inquiry into the involvement of three government servants in election campaign for a political party.

Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Manivannan said he had received a fax on the involvement of three officials, the names of whom would be announced only if they were found guilty during the inquiry.

He warned officials against venturing into campaigning for any political party while being a government servant. A Mysore Zoo contractor was caught participating in distribution of election material for a particularly party.

The zoo authority was asked to cancel his contract immediately.

Meanwhile the Excise officials seized illegal liquor worth of Rs six lakh near Nangangud last night and arrested one person in this connection.

So far 12 cases have been booked for illegal liquor transportation and eight persons taken into custody.

Mr Manivannan said notices had been issued to the BJP candidate from Krishnaraja constituency in the city for violation of election code for taking out huge procession while filing nomination. He has been asked to reply within 48 hours.

As many as 14 Central poll observes arrived in the city to oversee the entire election process in the district, he added.
