SUCI to organise strong movement after Panchyat polls
Kolkata, Apr 21 (UNI) Thanking the people on the ''total success'' of 12-hour Bangla bandh, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today said the party would organise a stronger movement in protest against the price hike after the Panchayat elections.
''The Opposition, comprising All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and SUCI, jointly called the Bangla bandh which has been a 'grand success'. The CPI(M), Congress and state government had tried to make the bandh a flop but failed because of the people's tremendous response,'' SUCI state secretary Provash Ghosh told newspersons here.
He said shops, markets, educational institutions, banks, government and private buses, trains and ferry services remained closed while industrial estates also responded to the bandh call.
''It was a token bandh today and the SUCI would campaign in the Panchayat elections to protest the price rise. The party would also organise a long movement against the soaring prices of essential commodities and to press for other demands,'' Mr Ghosh said.
