JP group to foray into education sector in HP

Shimla, Apr 21 (UNI) The Jay Pee Group, running an Information Technology University in Himachal Pradesh, has expressed its willingness to foray in education sector in a big way.

Unfolding his plans at the second convocation of Jay Pee University of Information and Technology at Wakanaghat, near here, Jai Prakash Gaur offered to open a similar university at Hamirpur and a medical college and super specialty hospital at Palumpur in Kangra district of the state.

He said the Jay Pee University with 1,800 students on rolls as of now it has a capacity to accommodate 3,000 students.

Besides as against ten per cent quota for Himachalis, the University has reserved 18 per cent seats for Himachali students, he said.

Later, talking to mediapersons at Solan, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the state government has received an offer from JP Group for opening a Medical College at Palampur and some other institutions of higher learning.

Besides, the government was also considering a proposal to enter into a partnership to takeover Vivekananda Medical Research Centre Trust (VMRT) at Palampur, he said.

The Chief Minister said besides cooperating in setting up the VMRT project, the JP Group has also offered to open a super specialty hospital at Palampur.

The Himachal Government has also provided vast chunk of land to the VMRT on token lease money of Re one and all related aspects would be examined in consultations with its management.

The VMRT project is the dream project of former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar and he had also talked about private participation in the project recently.
