BJP wins Nagar Nigam elections in Dehra Dun

Dehra Dun, Apr 21 (UNI) The ruling BJP today retained its control over the Dehra Dun nagar nigam, defeating Independent rival Rajni Rawat, who was earlier leading the race, by a margin of 16,000 votes.

BJP's front candidate Vinod Chamoli defeated Rajni to wrest the Mayor's seat.

The Party won on 28 out of the 60 ward seats. The main opposition congress won 24 seats while the UKD and BSP won one seat each.

BJP leader Umesh Aggarwal called it a ''historic'' day for the party which was ''sure of its victory ever since the elections were announced''. He said it was, ''not only a victory for the party, but for the people of the state as well those who entrusted their faith in the BJP''.

The BJP's victory was more prounounced as earlier, Independent candidate Rajni Rawat was leading the race by a margin of 7,700 votes.
