BJP urges Governor to withhold Panchayat election schedule
Kolkata, Apr 21 (UNI) The West Bengal BJP today met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi to apprise him of the ongoing CPI(M) ''hooliganism'' in the state and urged him to withhold the coming Panchayat election schedule.
'' The Opposition candidates in the Panchayat election are being heckled by the CPI(M) goons and whosoever dares to remit their nominations are threatened of dire consequences and as a result, the Peoples Representation Act in the state is becoming a mere farce, '' BJP state president Rahul Sinha said in a statement here.
He alleged that the CPI(M) goons in connivance with the police had unleashed a reign of terror throughout the state.
The blocks, which had severely fallen prey to the CPI(M) ''hooliganism'' were Garbeta-1&11, Keshpur and Salboni in Midnapore district, besides Arambagh, Khanakul 1&11 and Kotalpur in Hooghly district.
'' The Governor has the administrative power to suspend or withhold the Panchayat election. That is why we are appealing to him to advise the State Election Commission to accept fresh nominations from the above mentioned troubled blocks and order the police to ensure proper safety to all the aspiring Opposition candidates and bring the culprits to book, '' Mr Sinha stated.
