Lucknow, Apr 21 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, Uttar Pradesh police with the assistance of West Bengal counterpart, arrested eight members of the dreaded Kanwariya gang, who were involved in the sensetional killing of a woman under Bijpur police station in North 24 Pargana district in West Bengal (WB) in February.
The tribal criminal gang during the robbery at the residence of Vimal Das had thrown his wife Chandana from the fourth floor of the building on the night of February 20.
The criminals had fled away with 2 kgs of gold and two mobile phones.
Additional Director General of Police (STF) Brijlal said here today that one of the gang member Sishupal was arrested in Badaun this morning and on the information provided by him rest of the seven members were arrested in WB.
The arrested criminals included Ganpat Ram, the leader of the gang, Babu Lal Singh, Prem Pal, Satish Gautam, Banwari, Bhagwan Singh and Balbir. Ganpat Ram has a previous criminal record and even spent four and a half years in Moradabad jail.
Police has recovered the booty, comprising one kg gold and one mobile phone, from the possession of the arrested criminals.
According to Mr Brij Lal, ''this Scheduled Tribe (ST) gang move in a group from one state to another and reside in a slum near a city.
Later they roam around and select the house for their action.'' ''They are very cruel during the raid and don't hesitate to kill anyone who opposes them,'' he said adding that this gang acts like the of notorious Bawawariya gang.
