Transporters to observe 'chakka jam' in Jammu tomorrow
Jammu, Apr 20 (UNI) Private transport operators have announced a token ''chakka jam'' here tomorrow, in a bid to put pressure on the state government to concede their demand of fare hike.
The call was given by the Jammu Province Passenger Vehicle Transport Association with a notice of one week for addressing the demands, failing which an indefinite strike would be launched.
Stressing for revision of the passenger fares and freight in view of steep hike in fuel and lubricant prices, the transporters said due to the hike of prices and implementation of VAT, 180 per cent increase in insurance had made it tough for them to continue with their services.
The Association has demanded waiver of passenger tax, withdrawal of 8.4 per cent service tax, issuances of driving licenses to autorikshaw operators and parking fee of taxis at railway station.
