'Lord Kallazhagar' enters River Vagai
Madurai, Apr 20 (UNI) Lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country and abroad congregated to witness the spectacular event of 'Lord Kallazhagar entering the river Vaigai' amid chanting of the Vedic hymns, here today.
The event was held as a part of the ongoing 12-day annual 'Chithirai Brahmotsavam' of the ancient Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple in the heritage city.
The decorated idol of Lord Sundararaja Perumal, popularly known as 'Lord Kallazhagar,' draped in 'Green Silk' and mounted on the 'Thanga Kuthirai Vahanam' (Golden Horse) was taken out in a procession, entering the river Vaigai.
Before the procession started, a garland of tulsi from Sri Andal temple at Srivilliputhur was adorned on him, a traditional practice showing and expressing the affection of Goddess Andal towards Lord Kallazhagar.
According to tradition, Lord Kallazhagar enters the River Vaigai on the third day after the celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi with Lord Sundareswarar at the temple.
Later, the deity was taken to Vandiyur where the devotees would have 'Ekanta Sevai' at the Veeraraghava Perumal temple tomorrow.
The district administration in coordination with police and other departments made elaborate arrangements for the event.
