Amritsar, Apr 20 (UNI) BJP MLA from Amritsar North assembly constituency Anil Joshi has suggested that district police chief, Vijay Partap Singh should be given a ticket for the Amritsar South constiuency, where a by-election is scheduled for May 22.
Mr Joshi gave this suggestion to Health Minister and party colleague from Amritsar Central, Ms Laxmi Kanta Chawla who was instrumental in appointing Mr Vijay Partap as the SSP of Amritsar.
The suggestion came soon after the media briefing of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in which the law and order issue situation of the Holy City was highligted by reporters. It was pointed out to the Chief Minister that cases of snatching and theft were on the rise and even foreign tourists were being targeted.
Ms Chawla contended that these were isolated incidents and many of them had been solved.
However Mr Joshi joined issues with Ms Chawla after the media briefing and suggested that as the SSP had failed to control the rising crime in the city he should be given the ticket from the Amritsar South constituency.
''He is interested only in organising yoga functions or jingling bells in temples'', Mr Joshi said while questioning the ability of the SSP.
