Puducherry, Apr 19 (UNI) Taking exception to the reported move of the Tamil Nadu Government not to send any Panchayat representatives to the national convention on Panchayati Raj in New Delhi, Puducherry Panchayat Movement president V A Vasudevaraju today urged the State Government to reconsider its decision.
In a release here, he said the decision of the Tamil Nadu Government would prevent the Panchayat representatives' interaction with Panchayat leaders from other parts of the country and affect the fostering of national outlook.
The Centre had released funds to meet the travel expenses of the panchayat representatives and intimated this to all the States and Union Territories, he pointed out.
As one involved in Panchayat activities since 1961 and who trained officers and people's representatives from Tamil Nadu from 1951 to 1965 at Gandhiniketan Ashram, T O Kallupatti, Mr Vasudevaraju urged the Tamil Nadu Government to reconsider its decision and send all the 413 Panchayat Union Chairmen and district Panchayat Presidents to the national convention. Along with State autonomy, district autonomy, block autonomy and village autonomy were paramount to foster federalism in the country and serve the people well, he added.
