RJD alleges rampant corruption in construction works in Bihar
Patna, Apr 19 (UNI) The RJD today alleged that the Nitish Kumar government had failed to check rampant corruption in construction works of roads, drains and culverts in the state, despite its claim of maintaining transperancy in awarding contracts and launching special drive to book corrupt officers.
In a release issued here, national spokesman of the party Shyam Rajak said the corruption in various government departments responsible for carrying out construction works, had reached it crescendo, vanishing all claims of the Chief Minister into thin air on providing good governance.
''The alarming level of corruption could be gauged from the fact that in some cases, payments have been made on three occasions for the same piece of construction work,'' Mr Rajak pointed out and added that the transportation of bitumen shown by the vehicle in the bills, later turned out to be a two wheeler after checking its registration number.
He alleged that 70 per cent of the contract money was being syphoned off through the nexus of officers, ruling party leaders and the concerned contractors.
During his sudden inspection of the construction sites here yesterday, Road Construction Minister Prem Kumar had also found gross irregularities committed in road construction, Mr Rajak said.
He urged the Chief Minister to order thorough probe into all construction works carried out in the state during the tenure of the NDA government.
