DUJ condemns veteran scribes arrest in UP
New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) Expressing concern over the arrest of senior journalist Mehruddin Khan in Uttar Pradesh, the DUJ today urged the state government intervene and secure his release.
''It is a matter of serious concern that Dr Khan has been arrested for a news report he wrote on the alleged highhandedness of police in Muzaffarnagar,'' DUJ President S K Pande said.
He said Dr Khan, who is in jail for the past ten days, is not keeping well and his health is deteriorating.
''Home Minister Shivraj Patil, the Press Council and the National Human Rights Commission have been informed about his arrest,'' he added.
Mr Pande said an emergency meeting of the DUJ is slated for Tuesday to take stock of the latest developments and chalk out further course of action.
Meanwhile, the Janvadi Lekhak Sangh has also condemned the arrest of the scribe.
