11 Indian weightlifters to attend Kanazawa qualifying events

Patiala, Apr 19 (UNI) An eleven-member weightlifting squad, comprising seven women and four men, will represent India at the Asian Weightlifting Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kanazawa city, Ishikawa, Japan.

The players for the Asian tournament, slated for April 27 to May 2, would be accompanied by coaches Hansa Sharma (chief coach), K Amarnath and D.D.Sharma Manager Harbhajan Singh, President of Indian Weightlifting Federation.

''Our lifters may or may not qualify for Beijing Olympics, but, hopefully, they will win a couple of medals'', Dronacharya awardee Hansa Sharma, told UNI.

The Indian squad comprises: Women: Chaya Devi (53 kg.) ---Manipur Monika (69 kg.) --- CRPF Shristi (69 kg.) ---U.P.

P.Shailaja (75 kg.) ---Andhra Pradesh Kavita Devi(75 kg.) ---U.P.

Geeta Rani (+75 kg.)---CRPF Tulsi (+75 kg.)---Andhra Pradesh Reserve Ranu Mohanty (69 kg.) ---Orissa Chanchal Yadava (75 kg.) ---U.P.

Men V.S.Rao (56 kg.) ---Army Sports Institute,Pune K.Pujari (62 kg.) ---Army Sports Institute, Pune G.Elumalai (69 kg.) ---Railways K.Ravi Kumar (69 kg.) ---Army Sports Institute, Pune UNI XC JN AB KP1929
