Probability of mental decline higher in men
London, Apr 18: There is a greater chance of mental decline in old aged men than women, research has said. Scientists found that men are at least one and a half times more likely to have problems with memory and thinking skills when they turn 70.
According to a study, men are more likely than women to become dotty and forgetful in old age. ''This is one of the first studies to determine the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment among men and women who have been randomly selected from a community to participate in the study,'' said Dr Rosebud Roberts of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The study found that men were 1.67 times more likely to have mild cognitive impairment, problems with memory and thinking skills, than women.
The finding remained the same regardless of a man's education or marital status.
