National Memorial for Freedom Fighters: Ambika Soni
New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Culture Minister Ambika Soni today said a National Memorial for Freedom Fighters would be set up and that her Ministry had identified two-three possible places for the project.
Seeking a ''push'' from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for speedy completion of the memorial, Ms Soni said the project would be part of the several steps the government had taken to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first war of Independence.
She, however, did not disclose the places that had been chosen for the project.
Addressing a function, where Dr Singh released commemorative coins, the Culture Minister also requested the Prime Minister to head the committee which would be organising the centenary of Bhagat Singh on September 28 this year at Jallian wala bagh.
Dr Singh is the head of the National Committee on the celebration of the first war of Indepence.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the national memorial would have a panorama of the freedom struggle and asked the state governments to take similar steps to celebrate the local heros involved in the Independence movement.
