More time needed to probe into Dinhata firing: Judicial Committee
Coochbehar, Apr 18 (UNI) The judicial probe committee, appointed by the West Bengal government to investigate into the February 5 firing at Dinhata in which six persons were killed, today visited the Dinhata Sub-Divisional Office.
Speaking to newspersons here, former High Court judge Narayan Chandra Seal, who heads the committee, said investigation was on in the matter.
Mr Seal also held a meeting with Sub-Divisional Officer Debabrata Chakraborty and visited the Dinhata Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's court.
The government had instructed the committee to submit its report within six months. However, Mr Seal said the committee needed more time to complete the investigation.
Six persons, including five Forward Bloc (FB) supporters, were killed in a police firing on February 5 when the FB activists had organised a rally and tried to enter the Dinhata SDO forcibly.
The FB activists had also allegedly attacked police forces and damaged government vehicles and public property.
