Washington, April 18 : IFC Entertainment has nabbed North American rights to Madonna's directorial debut, 'Filth and Wisdom.'
The film, scripted by Madonna and Dan Cadan, and co-produced by Madonna and Nicola Doring, was initially intended as a short.
Described as a 'comedic drama,' Filth and Wisdom features an ensemble of colourful characters, among them 'a man who spanks for money, a chemist and a pole dancer.'
The singer-turned-director had initially considred an iTunes release, but instead partnered with IFC.
"She took some interesting risks stylistically that all pay off at the end," Variety quoted IFC acquisitions and production veepee Ariana Bocco, as saying.
"When I saw the film, I felt that it deserved a bigger, wider platform. Madonna and her crew are open to the kind of release we're going to do, so it was a natural fit," Bocco added.
Filth and Wisdom is slated to debut in theatres and video on demand this fall.
