New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Looking forward to repeating his Twenty20 World Cup heroics in the inaugural IPL, a confident Delhi Daredevils batsman Gautam Gambhir today said he was eager to resume his opening pairing with Virender Sehwag .
''Opening partnership is very important in Twenty20 cricket,'' Gambhir told mediapersons here on the eve of the opening clash against the Rajasthan Royals. ''It is a great advantage for us that me and Viru have been playing against each other since a long time back. Our opening partnership will play a crucial role in the upcoming matches.'' ''So far I have done a good job as an opener,'' he added.''In the Twenty20 World Cup I had done a fantastic job. So I would like to open again.'' The Team India opener, however, stressed that his focus will be to help his team rather than on personal achievements.
''I am not playing in the IPL for personal milestones,'' Gambhir remarked. ''My priority is to get runs, taking the team through and helping them win.'' Replying to a query, the 26-year-old left-hander insisted that there is no ego clashes between the local and foreign players.
''All the players are professional cricketers. There is no question of any ego clash. There is good bonding between foreigners and local players,'' he said.
Expressing confidence that the Daredevils will give a good account of themselves, Gambhir said all the teams in the fray are strong contenders for the title.
''Any team can win. We cannot take any team lightly,'' he quipped.
''But in the Delhi Daredevils, there are some players who are ideal for Twenty20. That is why we are backing ourselves.'' UNI RKM AB KN2016
