Guwahati/Srinagar, Apr 18 : Tibetans continue to protest across India over the Chinese crackdown in Lhasa.

Members of the 'Himalaya Parivar', an NGO, joined the 'Tibetan Solidarity Committee, North East India' to stage a protest rally against the 'Olympic Torch of Shame', in Guwahati.

"Sports, especially the Olympics symbolises peace, tranquility, brotherhood and friendship. So, this should be there. Since China has been given the opportunity to host. We want to show that China is not living up to the standards of the Olympics," said Yangchen Dolkar, a protester.

Meanwhile, in Srinagar, exiled Tibetans participated in a candlelight procession.

They held up placards, banners and small oil lamps to register their protest against China's human rights violations in Tibet.

They also marched to the United Nations office in Srinagar to urge the international community to consider their demands.

"We are doing whatever we can, but now the government should do something for us. We appeal not just to India, but to other countries as well to notice us. We haven't been given independence for long, so, something should be done for us," said Ningla, a protester.

In New Delhi, hours after the Indian leg of the Olympic torch relay had concluded peacefully, Police detained several protesting Tibetans.

The Indian leg of the relay was touted as one of the most tense, since the country provides refuge to 100,000 Tibetans and the Tibetan government-in-exile.
