Kozhikode, Apr 18 (UNI) The CPI (ML) Red Flag faction, led by its Secretary K T Kunhikannan, today decided to join the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Speaking to newspersons after the party convention here, Mr Kunhikannan said the decision to join the CPI (M) was taken unanimously by delegates.
The delegates wholeheartedly supported its political ideology in pursuance of ''people's democracy'' in the country, he added.
In a resolution adopted at the convention, the party said there was no point of maintaining separate identity as the Marxist Leninist parties lost relevance in the emerging political scenario in the country.
He also claimed that the party had the support of 600 cadres from various part of the state.
Welcoming their move, CPI (M) Kozhikode District Committee Secretary T K Ramakrishan said a final decision on the issue would be taken by the party state leadership.
Mr Kunhikannan had formed the separate outfit in the same name after he and his supporters were expelled from the CPI (ML) Red Flag, led by Secretary Unnichekkan, last month for its attempt to forge closer ties with the CPI (M).
