AIADMK members suspended from Assembly

Puducherry, Apr 18: All the three AIADMK members were suspended from the Puducherry Legislative Assembly for two days, for their remarks against AICC President Sonia Gandhi today.

Participating in a short discussion allowed on a call attention motion on price rise, AIADMK member A Anbazhagan made some remarks against Tamil Nadu government and Chief Minister M Karuananidhi, to which there was vehement opposition from the DMK members and the treasury bench.

As the House plunged into pandemonium, another AIADMK member Om Sakthi Sekhar made remarks against Sonia Gandhi to which the entire treasury bench were on their feet.

Speaker R Radhakrishnan restored order in the House and leader of the opposition suggested that the AIADMK members should be suspended from the House for making such remarks against the national leader and others.

Mr Radhakrishnan said if the leader of the House proposes a resolution it would be admitted. Following this Chief Minister N Rangasamy moved the resolution, seeking to suspend the AIADMK members, which was passed by voice vote.

As the members remained in the House argued, the Speaker ordered the marshals to evict them from the House. The Speaker also expunged the entire speech of Mr Anbazhagan and arguments in connection with the issue from the Assembly records.

Replying to the call attention motion, the Chief Minsiter said the statement made by Mr Anbazhagan was unwarranted and the statement against Ms Gandhi, who was respected by all over the world, be condemned and moved that the members should be suspended for today and Monday next, which was unanimously passed in the House.
