Jammu, Apr 18 (UNI) A senior assistant working as an accountant in the office of Assistant Commissioner, Development in Udhampur district was caught red handed by the Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation while accepting a bribe from a contractor, official sources today said.
''Accountant identified as Mohinder Singh was nabbed last evening by a team of Vigilance Organisation in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses as soon as he accepted the amount from a contractor, Ghulam Nabi of Poonch,'' the sources told UNI.
The Accountant had been demanding Rs 10,000 from the contractor for releasing his payment worth Rs 1.20 lakh pertaining to final bill of the work executed by him for Rural Development Department, the sources said.
However, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act had been registered against him.
