Two policemen booked after undertrial escapes in handcuffs
Moga, Apr 17 (UNI) Moga district police have registered a case against its two officials following the escape of an undertrial in handcuffs from their custody last night.
Police sources said head constable Ashwani Kumar and constable Dalbir Singh were booked on charges of negligence of the duty after undertrial Kuldeep Singh fled from the Punjab Roadways bus stand yesterday after pushing them.
The undertrial lodged in the Central jail, Ludhiana, was brought here for production in a court of Judicial Magistrate, in a similar case of escape from custody in 2005 when he had escaped near here while being taken back from Faridkot to Ludhiana, they said.
Yesterday, when the policemen arrived with him at the bus stand from the court to board a Ludhiana-bound bus, the accused after pusing back the policemen escaped in handcuffs from the bus stand.
However, instead of immediately informing the police at nearby Moga police station, they went back to Ludhiana police station and informed Moga police late last night.
The Moga police registered a case against the cops, suspecting foul play and negligence on the part of the policemen as it was difficult for an undertrial to escape with handcuffs, police sources said.
