Rashtriya Krantikari SP protests for separate Poorvanchal state
Lucknow, Apr 17 (UNI) Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party today staged a 'dharna' in front of Vidhan Bhawan here to press their demand for a separate Poorvanchal state by passing a Bill in this regard in the UP Vidhan Sabha and sending it to Centre.
''Poorvanchal has a population of seven crores, where people are living under a dismal condition...people of the area could only prosper after formation of a separate state,'' Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party president Gopal Rai said.
UP Chief Minister Mayawati and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) president Sonia Gandhi have already demanded that Poorvanchal should be made a separate state, therefore a bill should be passed in the state Vidhan Sabha without any delay and sent to the Centre, he added.
Later, the party also handed a memorandum referring Ms Mayawati to the senior officials.
