Rare Oskar Schindler photo up for sale

New York, Apr 17 : A rare autographed picture of German industrialist skar Schindler, who saved 1,400 Jews from death during WW II is being sold for 154,000 dollars.

The rare photo was given to Sholamit Vesengred by his parents Tova and Zvi Licht, who survived the Holocaust due to Schindler.

"My parents lived in Krakow while each was married to another person [and] had their own children. The Nazis took their families to a place from which they never returned," New York Post quoted Vesengred, as saying.

"When Schindler opened his enamel factory in Krakow, he took my father as a watchmaker and my mother as a seamstress to work for him," he added

After the war Vesengred's farther made a ring for Schindler engraved with the verse, "He who saves one Jewish soul saves the whole world."

As a memento of their friendship Schindler had signed the photo in 1949.

Gary Zimet, a dealer of historical memorabilia who is handling the sale, said that it's the only Schindler signature ever made available.
