Prez's address to Mexican Parliament cancelled
Mexico City, Apr 17: President Pratibha Patil's scheduled address to the Mexican Parliament has been cancelled in view of differences between the government and the opposition over power reforms here, an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that due to stalling of proceedings in the Parliament by the leftist Democratic Revolution Party over power reforms, a request by the Mexican government to cancel the address by Ms Patil was made, which has been accepted. Yesterday, in a recent first, the opposition stalled work in both Houses of the Parliament. In 1989, the Chamber of Deputies, was adjourned following an outbreak of fire.
The opposition is not in favour of the Bill, introduced by President Philip Cauldron led National Action Party, allowing private sector investment in oil production.
