Opposition parties criticise Left Front govt in Tripura
Agartala, Apr 17 (UNI) The Opposition parties in Tripura have flayed the Left Front government on state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sahid Choudhuri's alleged links with a Bangladeshi national, who was arrested on March 27.
The Opposition parties demanded the resignation of Mr Choudhuri for his alleged links with Bangladeshi national Mamum Mia, who was arrested in a joint operation by the West Bengal CID and Tripura police on March 27.
The Opposition alleged that the minister had helped the Mamum to stay in Tripura illegaly with forged documents.
They also urged the Tripura Governor to order a judicial enquiry to probe the case.
Speaking to UNI, Opposition leader Ratan Nath said, ''I have written to the Governor to intervene in the matter as it concerns the security of the entire nation. Since the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, is keeping mum on the entire issue and shielding Mr Chaudhuri, we have urged the intervention of the Governor.'' Meanwhile, the BJP state president also demanded the resignation of the minister from the Cabinet and asked the Chief Minister to immediately dismiss him.
However, Director General of Police K T D Singh said, ''Mamun has admitted of being a Bangladeshi national but his alleged links with any terrorist elements is being investigated.'' The DGP claimed that Mamun was not involved in any criminal case in Tripura.
