Native village of Indian engineer mourns his killing in Afghanistan

Thippanapalli (Tamil Nadu), Apr. 17 : The native village of Indian engineer C. Govindasamy killed in suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan mourned his death as the family received his body to perform last rites on Thursday.

Members of the local Administration visited the grief-struck family in Thippanapalli village in Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu and offered condolences.

Govindasamy (45) who was the only breadwinner of the family was working with a road construction project in Afghanistan for the past one year and is being survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

"He was the only breadwinner of the our family. We had no earning source except him. Our three daughters have been married off with his wages. The entire family was run by his income only," said Sivakami, wife of C. Govindasamy.

Collector and other senior officials of the District visited the village and offered tributes. Reportedly, Govindasamy's 13-year-old son performed the last rites. State police fired 12 bullet rounds in air before his cremation.

Last week, a suicide bomber killed two Indian road engineers and an Afghan in southwestern Afghanistan on Saturday in the second deadly attack on road builders in a week.

Nearly 4,000 Indians are engaged in various infrastructure projects in Afghanistan and India that has pledged 850 million dollars for the reconstruction of the country and New Delhi is the fifth largest donor.
