Mumbai, Apr 17 : Match referee Roshan Mahanama has disapproved of the pitch provided by India in Kanpur for the third and final test against South Africa, said the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Malcolm Speed.
"Roshan has lodged a report with the ICC about the pitch. The ICC then asked the BCCI for explanation on this," Speed said on the sidelines of an award presentation ceremony.
India won by eight wickets in less than three days at Kanpur at the weekend to square the series one-all, and this result allowed it to hold on to the number two spot in the ICC test rankings.
After collecting the ICC Mace, the Test Championship Trophy, Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that India posed a serious threat to Australia's Test cricket supremacy.
"Hopefully we can remain number one, but I can say India certainly have got a great team together at the moment. South Africa have played excellent cricket for a number of years in both forms of the game. Every team's objective is to become number one, and we have been lucky enough to be there for the last couple of years," he said.
India, which lost an acrimonious recent Test series 2-1 in Australia, finished second in the Test rankings after squaring a home series with South Africa.
