Shimla, Apr 17 (UNI) Observing that Himachal Pradesh Government is committed to welfare of weaker sections of society, an official spokesman today said that it is providing essential commodities like pulses, wheat, rice, iodized salt and oil on subsidised rates to ration card holders in the state.

In a release here he said keeping in view the complaints regarding quality of malka dal from field, the government had taken a decision to replace malka with black channa and the decision was conveyed to the Director Food and Supplies and the Managing Director, Civil Supplies Corporation.

The spokesman said the Centre had decided that palmoline refined Oil may be provided to the states in place of soyabean refined oil.

However, he said as per information received from the Centre, Palmoline Refined oil would not be available before June 2008, therefore, the state government would supply 1 ltr Mustard Oil and 1 ltr Soyabean Refined Oil to each family as before.

He said the ration card holder would have choice to take either 2 liters of one type of edible oil or 1 liter of each type as before.

The spokesman said the quantity of total wheat and rice to one family in a month has been restricted to 35 kg as per the central directive and added that no family would given total food grains more than 35 kg per month.

He said government had also decided to restrict total food grain (wheat and rice) to 20 kg per month to single member family (single person having a ration card) and added that ''this has been done to prevent misuse of food grains because normally a single person will not consume more than 20 kg food grain''.

The scheme of providing wheat flour at maximum rate of Rs 8 per kg and rice at the maximum rate of Rs 9 per kg will continue as before without any change, he added.
