Panaji, Apr 17 (UNI) Asia's first J K Tyre 24 hour Kart Enduro Race will be held in Goa on April 19 and 20 at Go-a-kart Race Track in Nuvem.
''The 24 hour Enduro event is coming to India for the first time and Goa gets the opportunity to host it primarily because the Nuvem race track is India's best and the state is known as the tourist destination of the world,'' members of the organising committee, Dr Sidney Moraes and Christopher Moraes, said at a joint press conference here last night.
The event is very popular in Dubai and Saudi Arabia. India is getting its first opportunity to host a major event in which three international and eight national teams, including a Goan team, will be seen in action, Dr Sidney informed.
He said the event, which is being co-sponsored by Goa Tourism department, will see teams from Singapore, Sri Lanka and Malaysia while India will be represented by teams from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune, Coimbatore and Goa, which will be led by Niaz Ahmed.
The aim is to succeed and make Goa a permanent venue for this event in India, Dr Sidney added.
Mr Moraes said Amay Walawalkar, Rayomand Banarjee, Audumber Hede and Niaz Ahmed will be the star Indian attractions of the event.
He said the organising expenditure for the event has been worked out at Rs one crore, with each team fielding six riders, but there will be no prize money for the event. The idea behind the Enduro race is to pick up the best team that lasts for 24 hours and does the maximum number of laps in that period.
An insurance cover of Rs one crore for karters for injuries and accidents has also been provided.
