22 injured while stealing petrol from tanker
Kurukshetra, Apr 17 (UNI) About 22 people received burn injuries while stealing petrol from a tanker which caught fire triggered by one of them near Bhavani Khera village, six km from here, today.
The injured were taken to the civil hospital here from where six of them with serious burns, were rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mahender Sharma said the tanker, which was going from Kurukshetra to Jhansa in the morning, over turned when its driver lost control.
Both the driver and the conductor of the tanker were injured in the accident and rushed to civil hospital here.
Later, some people started pilfering petrol from the tanker and one of them threw a burning match stick towards it when he could not get his share of the petrol.
The tanker, a motorcycle and two bicycles were gutted in the blaze.
Two fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the fire with the help of villagers.
Police registered a case against the person responsible for causing the fire.
