Train-Bus collision leaves 17 dead in Bangladesh
Dhaka, Apr 16 (UNI) At least 20 people were killed and 16 injured after a train ploughed through a passenger bus in northwestern Tangail district, about 100 kms from here today.
Sixteen passengers of the bus, along with its driver, were killed on the spot and 20 others were injured and rushed to Tangail General Hospital.
The accident occurred when Dhaka-bound Ekota Express from Dinajpur hit the packed bus at Rajbari rail crossing in Kalhati sub-district as the bus driver allegedly tried to cross the unmanned rail crossing.
''The front side of the bus got twisted in the crash,'' said a witness.
However, none of the train passengers were injured. The train reached its final destination a few hours after the accident.
Locals said the level crossing bars were not pulled down when the train was coming.
