Hyderabad, Apr 16 (UNI) The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have started preparations for the byelections for 18 Assembly seats and four Lok Sabha seats scheduled for May 29, immediately after the Election Commission (EC) announced poll schedule in New Delhi this afternoon.
Speaking to Mediapersons here, Telangna Rashtra Samithi TRS President and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao exuded confidence that his party would retain 16 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats, which fell vacant after the TRS MLAs and MP resigned following Centre's attitude towards separate statehood for Telangana.
The bypoll was necessiated in Khairatabad and Terlam Assembly seats due to the death of MLA P Janardhan Reddy and Jayaprakash.
Saying that the Telangana people would teach a lesson to the ruling Congress and the main Opposition TDP for betraying the people of the backward region on Telangana issue, Mr Rao said it was the right chance for the people to express their sentiments in the byelection.
BJP state unit President Bandaru Dattatraya said the party would field its candidates where the party had a stronghold. The Telangana issue would be the main agenda in the eleciton.
CPM state Assistant Secretary Y Venkateswara Rao said the party had already deicided to contest in Musheerabad and Cheryal Assembly constitutencies. The poll alliance with other like-minded parties would materialise after the state party unit took a decision.
CPI state Secretary K Narayana said the party would prepare a poll strategy at the state party committee meeting at Nagarjuna Sagar on April 25 and 26.
