Fake currency racket kingpin killed in encounter
Silchar, Apr 16 (UNI) Abdul Mannan, involved in fake currency racket, was killed in an encounter with police at Dinanathpur village of Hailakandi district early today.
A constable of Assam police - Faruq Ahmed - was injured in the incident.
Police said Mannan, a kingpin of an inter-state fake currency racket, shot at the constable from his home-made gun when a posse of police swooped down on his house at Dinanathpur village under Katlicherra police station.
The police retaliated and in the ensuing encounter Abdul Mannan was killed.
Police said Mannan succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
The injured policeman had been admitted to Silchar Medical College Hospital for treatment.
