New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) The Election Commission today announced bypolls to seven Lok Sabha seats and 22 assembly seats in six states including Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra.
While by-elections for the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Punjab will be held on May 22, by-elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh will be held on May 29, the EC said. The counting of votes will be taken up on May 25 and June 01 respectively.
The LS seats in Andhra where the bypoll will be held are Adilabad, Karimnagar, Hanamankonda and Warangal. Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Thane in Maharashtra and Tura in Meghalaya will be the other LS seats to go for a bypoll.
The legislative assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh going for bypoll are: Therlam, Khairatabad, Jadcherla, Vikarabad(SC), Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Siddipet, Dommat, Ramayampet, Yellareddey, Dichpalli, Khanapur(ST), Myadaram(SC), Huzurabad, Kamalapur, Cheriyal, Ghanpur(SC) and Alair(SC).
In Haryana, Indri, Gohana and Adampur assembly seats will go for bypoll. The Amritsar (South) assembly seat in Punjab will have a bypoll.
For Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Punjab, the notification will be issued on April 28. In case of Andhra Pradesh, the notification will be issued on May 5, the EC added.
The Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or any part of the Parliamentary/Assembly Constituencies are going for by-elections.
The Model Code of Conduct will also be applicable to the Union Government as far as these states are concerned, the EC said.
