Dr Bains honoured with lifetime Parvasi media award
Fatehgarh Sahib, Apr 16 (UNI) Dr Raghbir Singh Bains, a renowned drug therapist, encyclopaedist and museologist was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award-2007 by Parvasi Media Group for his excellence and outstanding accomplishments in the service to society.
The award was presented by the highly-decorated former Indian Police officer Dr Kiran Bedi, in a function held at Woodbine Banquet Hall, Rexdale, Ontario.
Known artist Jarnail Singh from Surrey and Punjabi font maker Dr Kulbir Singh Thind from USA were also honoured for expertise and community service in their fields.
Dr Raghbir Singh Bains, a septuagenarian, is a long-time social activist. He has run awareness campaigns among multicultural communities against menace of drugs, AIDS and prostitution.
Dr Bains is author of the Encyclopedia of Sikhism, first of its kind in the world on multimedia technology. He set up the first of its kind robotic and LCD touch screen Multimedia Sikh Museum at Khadur Sahib and another at Jalandhar.
The Parvasi Awards were instituted in 2005 to honour the Punjabi Canadians in recognition for their contribution to the Canadian society. The nominees for awards are screened by a committee of reputed and renowned Punjabi Canadians.
