Lucknow, Apr 16 (UNI) Exulted over the success in bypolls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati today said these results were indicative of the party's landslide victory in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
The BSP leader, who never hid her desire to grab power at the Centre, described the bypolls success as a prelude to the things to come in the coming Lok Sabha elections due next year.
''The party's sweeping victory in two Lok Sabha and three assembly constituencies has proved people's faith and belief in policies and governance of my government in the state,''she told mediapersons at a press conference here this evening.
BSP emerged victorious in bypolls to Khalilalabad and Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency as well as Assembly constituencies of Bilgram, Muradnagar and Colonelganj, results of which were declared earlier today.
Ms Mayawati said the success in bypolls was more spectacular because of the fact that all the main opposition parties( BJP, SP and Congress) had a tacit understanding among themselves against BSP. ''They had even fielded their candidates on the basis of this understanding,'' she pointed out.
It was commendable on the part of BSP team that it could register its success despite opposition being determined to outstage it by hook or by crook. ''The BSP office bearers and partymen have done remarkable work to further strengthen the party,'' she said.
She chose the occasion to lambast Congress once again saying its 'so called' pro-dalit stance did not come to party's rescue as Congress candidates lost their security deposit in four of the five constituencies. It may be recalled that Mayawati was losing no opportunity to corner Congress specially its MP Rahul Gandhi for his recent efforts to woo dalit voters in the state.
The UP CM also ridiculed Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav for using film stars for campaigning. She said the SP leader left no stone unturned in electioneering and visted each constituency several times but to no avail. ''Film Stars ke saath kalakari to bahut dhikhayee par unki party ek bhi seat nahi jeet payee (Lot of fanfare was arranged by him but could not win a single seat),'' she sarcasitically remarked.
Ms Mayawati said the party's success clearly meant that its principle of 'Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay ( Welfare for All) had gone down well with the massess in UP.
