Srinagar, Apr 15 (UNI) Demanding setting up of an inquiry commission to probe the source of income of separatist and mainstream leaders, the Congress party in the Jammu and Kashmir said people want to know how these properties have been acquired and bank balances accumulated.

Senior vice president of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Abdul Gani Vakil, who is also Minister for Social Welfare in the coalition government demanded constitution of an inquiry commission to ascertain the source of income of both separatist and mainstream politicians who have amassed huge property within and outside the state.

''People have every right to know how these properties have been acquired and bank balances accumulated by these leaders, he added.

Speaking at a public meeting at Vilgam Handwara in North Kashmir on Monday, he said Congress would like to have such commission early constituted.

He said unless politicians themselves declared their source of income, the demand for commission would be vehemently raised.

''It is a must that people know who is who'', he said.

Taking a dig on the politicians preaching negative politics and favouring violence, Mr Vakil questioned how many of them have asked their sons to wield gun.

He said it was strange that they ask the wards of others to be part of violence and seek respectable jobs and positions for their own children. This is most unfortunate part of political behaviour being practiced in the state, he said and added that selfishness and politicking was a ridiculed commodity.

Without naming anyone he said another group of politicians start croaking as frogs do in the monsoon soon when elections are in sight. They try to tantalize public by singing songs of emotional exploitation, he alleged.

''Raising the planks of autonomy, self-rule, withdrawal of troops and dual control has become habit of some parties when they are not at the helm of affairs. They forget it when reins of power are in their hands.

Congress, he said, never indulges in communal, religious, regional politics nor believes in creed, colour or caste. We preach democracy, equality, integration and unity to uphold dignity of every human being, he said.
