Police officer suspended for questionable role in Maoist attack

Patna, Apr 15 (UNI) Taking serious note of the complaints of alleged links between Officer In-charge of Government Rail Police (GRP) at Jhajha station Shakti Verma and the Maoists, the Bihar government today suspended the officer.

The Maoist attack on Jhajha station on April 13 left five policemen and a porter dead.

State Director General of Police S C Jha said here that some serious complaints had been made against Mr Verma in which his role in the recent attack was questioned.

Corruption charges were also levelled against the officer following which he had been suspended with immediate effect.

He said keeping in mind the circumstantial evidence it was being investigated whether Mr Verma was injured in the Maoist attack.

The officer also failed to discharge his duty of providing proper security at the time of attack, he added.

The DGP said Bihar police in joint collaboration with the Jharkhand police had launched a massive combing operation to nab the extremists.

Mr Jha also said he was in constant touch with his counterpart in Jharkhand to tackle the menace.
