Parliament adjourned on issue of price rise
New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) Proceedings in Parliament were stalled by the Opposition, and the UPA supporting Left Parties, on the issue of price rise, forcing the Chairs to adjourn both the Houses for the day.
As the Lok Sabha assembled to take up the proceedings, members belonging to the BJP-led NDA, Left Parties and UNPA got up and began shouting slogans against spiralling prices, accusing the government of failure to control the price rise.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House for half-an-hour earlier in the morning. When the House reassembled, the scene was no different as the agitated members continued their slogan shouting, while the treasury bench members quietly watched the scene. A few Samajwadi Party members even trooped to the well of the House.
The repeated pleas by the Chair to members fell flat, forcing Mr Chatterjee to adjourn the House for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, the price rise issue erupted soon after the newly elected members were administered the oath of affirmation as the Chairman Hamid Ansari briefly adjourned for ten minutes till 1200 hours and later for the day as adamant Opposition continued to thwart the proceedings.
Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh introduced the new seven faces inducted into his Council of Ministers in both the Houses.
