Jute Mill workers agitate against modernisation, three injured
Barrackpore, Apr 15 (UNI) At least three people were injured today, when rival groups of workers clashed at Kelvin Jute Mill here in North 24 Parganas over the mill's modernisation issue.
Police said two of the injured had been admitted to sub-divisional hospital here, while the other was admitted to ESI Hospital at Kamarhati.
The incident occurred when a group of workers came crashing into the mill and asked another group of on-duty workers to stay away from work.
The company had installed four new machines with a view to modernise the mill. It wanted to install at least 11 new machines, CITU union sources said and alleged that a group of workers expressed resentment to the company's move to modernise the mill and stopped work last night.
Police had rushed to the mill and pacified the workers, however, no arrests had been made sofar in this connection.
