Aizawl, Apr 15 (UNI) Petrol pumps in Aizawl have been hit hard following the Mizoram Oil Tankers' Association's indefinite strike from today.
In view of the tanker drivers' decision to stay off the roads, a large number of vehicles made a beeline in front of the petrol pumps yesterday to relinquish their stocks, causing massive traffic congestion.
The association said it was compelled to take the step due to ''excessive taxation''.
Meanwhile, the state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department also swung into action by restricting the sale of petrol from the petrol pumps.
Petrol pumps were restricted to sell only five litres to any particular two-wheeler, five litres to a medium-sized vehicle and only one full tank to one truck at a time.
