25 injured in clash between traders and 'hammals' in MP
Sehore, MP, Apr 15 (UNI) About 25 people were injured in a clash between agriculture produce mandi traders and 'hammals (porter)' at Ashta in this district, police said today.
Police lobbed tear gas shells and fired 20 rounds in air to control the situation.
'Hammals' went on a sudden strike this afternoon to demand increase in their wage and this was protested by traders. In the meantime, some farmers, who reached mandi with their crops, started pelting stones on traders and were joined by 'hammals'.
In retaliation, traders also pelted stones on them.
Police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Later, the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police facilitated discussion of both sides to resolve the issue.
