Pub culture hits Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Apr 14: Call it a changing social scenario or generational change, but pubs are fast emerging popular among youngsters in Chandigarh.

"After a hectic schedule of the day, the youngsters need entrainment like going to a beer bar to enjoy the whisky, cocktails and mocktails. This has become a necessity now," said Pravin, one of the youngsters.

New upmarket hangouts like 'Wild West Pub', 'Blue Ice', 'Copper Club', barely six to 18 months' old, have shaken the conservative roots of Chandigarhians by redefining drinking and socializing patterns of the young.

"We serve almost every brand, but the most popular is 'draught beer'. We also serve fruit beer and mocktails like frozen margarita and blue breeze," said Suresh Thakur from 'Wild West Pub'.

Pubbing at present is more about dating, socialising, chatting up friends and building associations and contacts. Some may call it a place to drink and dance, but it is also taken up by some as an agreeable way to kill time.

The young, however, are perennially hunting for new haunts and novel ways to experience that zing.
