Dubai, Apr 14 (UNI) India's eight-wicket win against South Africa in Kanpur not only helped them square the three-Test series but also allowed them to retain second place in the ICC Test championship.
After losing the second Test in Ahmedabad against Proteas, India had come to the Kanpur Test facing the possibility of rolling down to the fourth spot in the ICC rankings.
Meanwhile, South Africa, defying all predictions managed to win the Ahmedabad Test, climbed one spot above Sri Lanka at the third place.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka dropped two places to fifth position which was largely due to their drawn series against lowly ranked West Indies.
However, World Champions Australia are still leading the rankings' chart with 30 rating points ahead of second-placed India at 111 points.
