Chennai, Apr 14 (UNI) The opposition All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) would stage a demonstration here on April 16 against the DMK government's anti-labour policy and victimisation of Metro Transport Corporation employees.
AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, in a statement here said the agitation would be organised by Anna Thozhirsangam (Labour Union), affiliated to the party in front of the Pallavan house here.
Legal wing secrtary P H Manoj Pandian would lead the agitation in the presence of Anna Thozhirsangam secretary P Rajendran, she said and called upon transport employees and general public to take part in the protest in large numbers.
Alleging that the government was keen on sacking the employees on one pretext or the other, she said under section 11-C of the standing order, an employee would become liable for action, if he absented himself for more than eight days, but in most of the cases, they would be warned after giving minimum punishments.
But in the present regime, they were being sacked from service, she said adding, so far more than 150 such employees have been sacked.
Similarly, invoking section 11-E of the standing order, the government was planning to send home hundreds of employees, who have not turned up for duty for more than 80 days.
Under the two sections, not even one employee was sacked during the previous AIADMK regime, she said.
Apart from this, the DMK government was also taking stern action against the employees, if they involved in minor accidents. The employees were made to work for ten hours, instead of eight hours and they were not paid overtime allowance for the extra hours of duty, she alleged.
