Nagpur, Apr 13 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will inaugurate the new terminal building of Dr Ambedkar International Airport here tomorrow.
Mr Pawar will also unveil a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in the airport premises during the same function, according to an official press release here.
Bihar Governor R S Gavai would preside over the function, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh would be the chief guest.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, Union Minister of State for New And Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil would be the guests of honour.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has modified and upgraded the existing terminal building at Nagpur airport into a world-class integrated terminal building at a cost of Rs 79 crore, the release said.
Covering an area of 17,500 square metres, the new building has the capacity to handle 400 arriving/400 departing domestic passengers and 150 arriving/150 departing international passengers during peak hours, it added.
The new terminal building has 20 check-in and 20 immigration counters, passenger boarding bridges with visual docking guidance systems, escalators, lifts, baggage conveyor systems and a duty-free shop.
Nagpur airport was upgraded into an international airport and renamed after Dr Ambedkar in 2005. Currently, it has regular flights to four international destinations - Sharjah (Air Arabia), Bangkok (Indian), Doha (Qatar Airways) and Dubai (Air India Express).
Earlier tomorrow, Mr Pawar will also inaugurate the new branch of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan's school here.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief is also scheduled to address a convention of the party's office bearers from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra later in the day, according to Maharashtra Minister for Public Works Anil Deshmukh.
The convention would also be addressed by NCP Maharashtra unit president Arun Gujarathi, he added.
