Mumbai to represent India at Budweiser 6v6 Cup in England

Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Mumbai was crowned the National Champion of the Budweiser Six-On-Six International Football Tournament here today.

The Mumbai team, led by Osbern D'Souza competed against teams from Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka in the national finals to emerge victorious.

The Mumbai team will now represent India and ''Live The Dream'' of playing against teams from 17 other countries on Manchester United's home pitch known as the Theatre of Dreams at Old Trafford in Manchester on May 5. This is the first year India is participating in the international amateur tournament.

''Our heartiest congratulations to the Mumbai team for winning the title of National Champions, they have prevailed throughout this tournament, and we wish them all the very best as they travel to Manchester to represent India at the Bud Cup 2008,'' Anil Manjunath, head of Marketing for Budweiser in India, said.

''Win or lose, the experience of playing at Old Trafford will create memories that will last a lifetime for these seven passionate footballers,'' he added.

The India National Champions are Jonathan Fernandes, Sheldon Fernandes, Allan Nadar, Denis Menezes, Arveen Thakur, Hekmat Singh and their captain Osbern D'Souza.

Teams from Cyprus, Norway, Sweden, England, Wales, Scotland, Paraguay, Ireland, South Korea, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, India, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Netherlands, Belgium and Italy will emerge from the Player's Tunnel to take the pitch and challenge for the 2008 Budweiser Cup title.

The national winners (up to seven players and one manager) will receive round-trip airline tickets to the United Kingdom, first-class hotel accommodation, access to Manchester United training facilities and an exclusive tour of Old Trafford.

The format of the tournament will be 20-minute matches under the six-on-six format. Six players can play at a time and teams can have up to seven players on their rosters, allowing for substitutions throughout the game.
