Maoists candidates lead in Nepal vote counting

Kathmandu, Apr 12: Maoists candidates are leading in majority of the seats in Nepal's Constituent Assembly polls which was held on April 10.

Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa was defeated in Dhankuta constituency 2 by Maoist candidate Hariraj Limbu with 12099 votes while Mr Thapa was in third place with 5332 votes. Maoists chairman Prachand and second in command Dr Baburam Bhattarai are leading with huge margin in Kathmandu 10 and Gorkha 2. Nepali Congress candidates Chakra Bahadur Thakuri and Mrs Suprabha Ghimire have won the election in Kathmandu 3 and 4 respectively.

UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal is in the second place in Kathmandu 2 where Maoists candidate Jhakku Subedi is leading by a margin of over 2000 votes.

Maoist candidates are leading in 58 constituencies, NC candidates in 23 constituencies, UML in 15 constituencies, Madhesi People's Rights Forum in 7 constituencies and Terai Madhes Democratic Party candidates are leading in 3 constituencies.
